Such a beaut day for #nakedgardeningday 🄰
Another day making EVOO, this time a small contract press for locals Brian & Karen. These olives are a mix of Frantoio & WAmission, a little green but that’s what makes an intense green oil. We tested the results on home made bruschetta and it was delicious with a super peppery zing šŸ˜
The Sun is finally out and olives are ripening. We are planning the Community Press for May 9th. If your keen to turn your olives into EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) then rustle up your family, friends & neighbours and get those olives in to our olive shed for pressing. More info on our fb page or message/call us on 0407257255.
Today I said goodbye to Cafe Latte, she’s been a loyal pony for the last 15 years and we will miss her. She’s off to Mingenew to hang out with my granddaughter Claire and I couldn’t have wished for a better home. This pony was always intended for a grandchild somewhere along the line and I’m grateful that eventually she’s made it 🄰
First batch of oil today šŸ˜ We managed 400kg thru the mill, overcoming the usual hiccups on the first day - which setting? Where’s that hose? What’s that clunk? Rain & more rain! Anyways we all survived and Shane & I are still together - you really do forget how stressful things can get on a first day - even if it’s the 11th year. We will get settled in and ensure all is running smoothly then get organised for a community press in early May.
Olive harvest ticking along nicely, utilising our new #olinet from #farmandgeneral and #campagnolo harvesting rakes from #eclipseenterprises and all overseen by Kenny & Biggles. Currently on #frantoio which always ripens first - still a long way to go especially now we have to dodge rain 🌧
It’s arrived! Our new Olinet just in time - the Frantoio are ripening rapidly and Shane & I will have our nose to the grindstone over the next couple of weeks getting all these olives thru the press. Even tho it’s a bit of hard work this net will make life easier and reaping the rewards of your labour is always rewarding.
Sorry we’re not open but our olive harvest is nearly here. I’m in the grove tidying up the trees and doing crop estimates. These are Frantoio and are 1% ready - usually the first to harvest but are looking a bit dry this year, it would be really nice to get a shower of rain or too.
The Carnaby’s are here, they’ve been hanging around for about a week but today they were the morning chorus. About 300 decided to drop in and career around the Tuart trees, they snip off leaves, chomp the hakea nuts, devour the banksia cones and today even checked the rain gauge! They are a naughty loud raucous and funny bird and we love having them visit, it means rains are coming ā€˜sometime’ and autumn is here. Join us for the annual cocky count at sunset April 3rd, more details to come.
